Wrestling: UNC places 28th at Rumble on the Red

Three United North Central Warriors placed at the Rumble on the Red wrestling tournament at the Fargodome on Dec. 29-30.

Ethan Hendrickson placed third at 145 pounds, Eion Ness finished seventh at 160 and Torrey Carlson took eighth at 195 as the Warriors finished 28th in the 74-team field with 47.50 points despite having only six wrestlers compete. Jackson County Central won the title with 156.50 points in this 15th annual tournament that saw 61 teams score points.

Hendrickson opened with a 12-0 major decision over Mankato West’s Brody Koberoski and a 17-2 technical fall win at the 4:46 mark over Jackson County Central’s Dylan Withers before posting a 3-0 minor decision over Royalton-Upsala’s Sawyer Simmons in the quarterfinals. Zach Hanson of Lakeville North defeated Hendrickson 7-1 in the semifinals before the Menahga senior rebounded to defeat Stillwater’s Owen Bouthilet 5-0 and Wayzata’s Kyler Wong 3-1 in overtime in the third-place match to score 18.50 points and improve to 19-1 on the season.

Ness followed a pin in 2:42 over Eagan’s Austin Kalina with a 2-0 loss to Jamestown’s Colton Mewes. Ness rebounded with wins over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted’s Wiley Wiegert (with a pin in 3:18), West Fargo’s Tyler Porter (12-4) and Rapid City Stevens’ Riley Beson (4-2) in the consolation bracket before dropping a 2-0 decision to Waconia’s Josh Wagener. A 2-1 decision over Perham’s Blake Lorentz gave Ness seventh place and 12 team points. Ness is 18-2 on the season.

Carlson defeated West Fargo’s Connor Lamb 8-3 and Valley City’s Broden Muske 5-2 before being pinned by Waconia’s Max McEnelly in 11 seconds. Carlson defeated New Prague’s Evan Anderson 3-1 in overtime, was pinned by Stillwater’s Zachariah Hunter in 3:45 and dropped a 3-2 decision to Tri-City United’s Marco Reyes in the seventh-place match to score 6 team points. Carlson’s record is now 13-4.


Also competing for the Warriors were Aaron Lake at 126, Hank Tellers at 152 and Marcus Peterson at 285.

Lake went 1-2 and scored 3 points with an 8-4 loss to Carrington’s Matthew Duchscherer, a pin in 1:14 over Perham’s Jonathan Ramos and a loss by pin in 4:10 to Wayzata’s Caden Wong.

Tellers went 2-2 and scored 4 points with a 16-3 major decision win over Bismarck’s Tate Olson, a 7-1 loss to Forest Lake’s Dan VanAcker, an 8-2 win over Kimball’s Logan Kuseske and a loss by pin in 2:47 to Crookston’s Ethan Bowman.

Peterson went 1-2 and scored 4 points with a pin over Bismarck St. Mary’s Jack Weikum in 3:15 and losses to Royalton-Upsala’s Jeremy Mugg by pin in 2:22 and Fargo Davies’ Dylan Carlquist by pin in 3:00.
