BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Beltrami County Attorney's Office has charged five people in connection to the death of a minor who fell from the seventh floor of Bemidji State University's Tamarack Hall in late September. According to a press release from the Beltrami County Attorney's Office, each of the five individuals has been charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor for furnishing alcohol to minors. Those charged are Bryce Peter Mattson, Jack William Mathison, Aaron Elliot Trebelhorn, Zachary Charles Morse and Jordan Trowbridge Swan.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed Friday, Nov. 30, that Vernon May, 34, of Red Lake, was the man local law enforcement officials shot and killed Wednesday night during a traffic stop in Bemidji.
BLACKDUCK, Minn. - She may not have killed two birds with a single stone, but Alli Theisen came as close as anyone to nailing the metaphor right on the head. The Blackduck High School freshman recently downed two small deer with a single shot when she was hunting with her sister on their grandfather’s land in Nebish, just east of Blackduck in north-central Minnesota. The sisters had been waiting for approximately two hours when they saw the deer wander into their view at about 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5.
BLACKDUCK, Minn. — A Blackduck man was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 14, after his 10-year-old son accidently shot himself with a 22-caliber gun two days before. David Bjerkness, 50, has been charged with the endangerment of a child by firearm access, a felony-level offense.
BAGLEY, Minn. — A judge Tuesday, Oct. 9, dismissed the case against three environmental activists who were charged with damaging a northern Minnesota pipeline in 2016. The defendants, who have referred to themselves as "valve turners," shut off the valves of two Enbridge Energy Co. pipelines near Leonard in Clearwater County in October 2016 as a way to protest the oil industry's contribution to climate change. The action was part of a coordinated effort across several states.
BAGLEY, Minn.—The jury trial for three defendants charged with property damage to an oil pipeline in 2016 started Monday in the Clearwater County Courthouse. The trial stems from a mid-October 2016 incident when the defendants used bolt cutters to gain access to an Enbridge pipeline facility near Leonard.
BEMIDJI—The Bemidji Police Department has identified the man who died Sunday at BSU as 19-year-old Isaac Jon Morris of Cokato, a small town about 50 miles west of Minneapolis. According to a statement released Tuesday by the police department, Morris died after falling from the seventh floor of BSU’s Tamarack Hall, which is 12 floors high. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office said Morris subsequently died from “significant internal head trauma.” Police have ruled the fall as an accident.
BEMIDJI, Minn.—Little new information was released Monday following the death of an 18-year-old man who apparently fell from a high elevation on a 12-story dormitory on the Bemidji State University campus in northwest Minnesota early Sunday, Sept. 30. The Bemidji Police Department has not released the name of the victim or any of the circumstances surrounding his death. The man's family has been notified. University officials also didn't release any new information Monday.
BEMIDJI—A 27-year-old man died Sunday in the Beltrami County Jail from an "unknown medical condition," officials said Tuesday, Sept. 4. Hardel H. Sherrell, of Apple Valley, Minn., "collapsed and became unresponsive" at approximately 4:58 p.m., according to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. The jail staff undertook CPR and used an automated external defibrillator in an attempt to revive Sherrell. He died at the facility.
