The Hubbard County Commissioners, in a relatively brief meeting Tuesday, discussed whether the county should become the administrator of portable commodes each summer, installing and maintaining restrooms at some or all of its 22 public accesses. Lake Kabekona residents had requested a county-maintained latrine, the county currently maintaining restrooms on Fish Hook and Stony Lake. Cost of this is an estimated $450 per season, per site.

Robert and Frann Kuhn will celebrate their first wedding anniversary June 13. "But it feels like we’ve been together forever," Frann, 70, said of her spouse, who’s 78. "She waited on me," he said. "I like your car," Frann Long told him. (He’d borrowed it from his brother.)

Bjerke held the highest of the enlisted ranks in the Navy, Remus said.
Laura Johnson has assumed the role of interim executive director of the Hubbard County Developmental Achievement Center, following the recent departure of Matt Kramer. As the names reflect – Wisdom Club (circa 1955), Never Grow Old Club (circa 1956) and the Community Senior Citizens Club (1970) – the Park Rapids Senior Citizens Club has evolved through the decades, membership waxing and waning. A year ago, there was talk of disbanding; the building was used once a week, just in the summer, by bridge groups. Now a renaissance is in the works. Interest in the club located in the former fire hall has reignited.
