RAYMOND, Minn. – A 31-year-old man died Friday morning, Nov. 9, at a worksite southwest of Willmar in central Minnesota. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, a call of an unresponsive male was received around 11:46 a.m. The man had been working for a construction company installing tile in a field. The Sheriff’s Office reported the man might have been pinned between heavy equipment. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
PEQUOT LAKES, Minn. -- A 16-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the foot while loading hunting gear into a vehicle Tuesday, Nov. 6, in rural Pequot Lakes.
LITTLE FALLS, Minn. — The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office continues to ask for the public’s assistance in the investigation of Terrence “Terry” Brisk’s death on Nov. 7, 2016. The sheriff’s office joined with the statewide nonprofit Crime Stoppers of Minnesota to invite the public to come forward easily and anonymously with any information about the case, a news release stated.
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — Two Thief River Falls men face counterfeiting charges after police say they used fake $100 bills to get real money from a casino. Ricardo Martinez, 28, and Bobby Vinton Peralta, 42, had first appearances Monday in Pennington County District Court. Court documents detail how surveillance video at the Seven Clans Casino southeast of Thief River Falls caught the men trying to pass off three $100 bills to cashiers on or about Aug. 1.
FERTILE, Minn. -- A body of a man who had been hunting was found in a rural Fertile, Minn., field Tuesday night, a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. Timothy Leon Berhow, 66, of Grand Forks, N.D., was found just before 8:30 p.m. in a field where he had been hunting, the release said.
WANNASKA, Minn. -- A 19-year-old woman died after rolling her car Friday afternoon, a press release from the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office said. Leah Marie Vigum, of Twin Valley, Minn., was westbound on County Road 18 in Golden Valley Township, south of Wannaska, when her 1994 Pontiac Bonneville veered off the road and rolled just before 4:30 p.m., according to the release. Vigum was not wearing her seat belt and was thrown from the car, the release said.
Minnesota hunters registered 62,702 deer, of which 36,149 were bucks, during the opening weekend of the state’s firearms deer season, according to preliminary reports from the Department of Natural Resources. That’s down about 14.5 percent from last year’s opener, when hunters registered 73,479 deer and 42,286 bucks during the first two days of season, the DNR said.
WILLMAR, Minn. – Second-degree murder charges are pending against two individuals who were arrested late Monday afternoon, Nov. 5, in the homicide death of David Medellin Jr. The body of the 24-year-old Willmar man was found Wednesday in a plowed field near Willmar in central Minnesota and on Friday law enforcement said Medellin’s death was being investigated as a homicide.
BEMIDJI—For some Line 3 opponents, Friday was their day in court and another in a string of protests against the controversial oil pipeline project. A few dozen people chanted and carried banners from the Rail River Folk School to Beltrami County court, where 22 people faced misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges they received Aug. 29 during a Line 3 protest that briefly shut down a chunk of downtown Bemidji.
WALKER—A Cass Lake man was sentenced Friday to seven and a half years in prison for the shooting of a woman during a drug deal gone bad nearly a year before. During the emotionally charged court hearing, Brandon Roy, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, first-degree aggravated robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. However, Roy was only sentenced on the manslaughter charge.
