BARRON, Wis. — Wisconsin authorities have updated the Amber Alert for 13-year-old Jayme Closs, who disappeared from her home in Barron, where her parents were discovered dead on Oct. 15. It is still not clear what happened to the girl.
On Sept. 12, at approximately 8:13 p.m., the Becker County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant in Osage, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Morgan Elizabeth Marie Anderson, 18, of Park Rapids, and Matthew Michael Gibson, 18, of Osage, are being held at the Becker County Jail pending charges for selling a controlled substance.
WHITE EARTH — The West Nile Virus (WNV) was recently detected in two crows within the city of Mahnomen. An individual reported the bird carcasses to the White Earth Reservation Natural Resources Department, who in turn sent the birds to the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) in Wisconsin. The NWHC Epidemiology Team confirmed the birds were carriers of the West Nile Virus.
A planned Bemidji-area charter school is another step closer to opening. Last week, the Minnesota Department of Education approved an affidavit for the Aurora Waasakone Community of Learners, a hoped-for K-8 charter school that aims to take over an old school building about 10 miles south of Bemidji in Hubbard County.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- A 12-year-old girl died Friday in an apparent drowning in a swampy area between two lakes near here. JaLysa Anne Cook of Alexandria was found in about 3 feet of water about 6:10 p.m, according to authorities.
