Hubbard County is one of 57 Minnesota counties to receive grants to improve courthouse safety. Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie S. Gildea announced the award of $1 million in grants through the Safe and Secure Courthouse Initiative. The grant funding will go towards the implementation of safety and security improvements in 57 county courthouses across Minnesota.
The League of Minnesota Cities has selected 32 state lawmakers, including Senator Paul Utke, of Park Rapids, as Legislators of Distinction for 2017. The honor recognizes legislators for specific actions that aided efforts of Minnesota cities during the past year's legislative session. Legislators of Distinction are approved annually by the League's Board of Directors to recognize that in order to successfully serve shared communities, state and city officials must work together to meet the unique needs of rural, suburban and urban residents all across Minnesota.

Rob Belanger has been named administrative director for Sanford Bagley, following interim administrator Seth Tramm. In his role, Belanger will directly oversee all operations for Sanford Bagley including the medical center, ambulance service and clinics in Bagley and Clearbrook.
Nickelodeon and Paul Bunyan Communications invite area kids to meet Jimmy Neutron, star of Nickelodeon's popular animated series "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius," on June 29 at the 2nd Street Stage in Park Rapids. The Nickelodeon costumed character will be roaming about 2nd Street Stage festivities in 20 intervals from 6 to 8 p.m. Jimmy will also be available to pose with kids and families to take photos.

Knute Nelson invites the community to a ceremonious groundbreaking for Crystal Brook Senior Living, the newest lifestyle community, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15. The ceremony will take place at their site on 1006 Crocus Hill Street in Park Rapids. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Itasca Mantrap Cooperative at 16930 County 6, Park Rapids. RSVPs appreciated, but not required. Cancer in one way or another touches the lives of just about everyone, either directly or indirectly. It's a widespread disease that reaches nearly every family, whether it's mom or dad, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons, daughters, cousins or friends. Millions of dollars go toward cancer research each year and the medical community has made huge strides in diagnosing and treating cancer. Thanks to that treatment and research, cancer is no longer a death sentence for everyone diagnosed with the disease.
