A Detroit Lakes, Minn. police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after allegedly punching a man he's arrested a couple times in the past. Blake Sundvor, also known as Blake Mastin, of Frazee, Minn., alleges he was punched by Detroit Lakes Police Sergeant Robert Strand at the Hub 41 restaurant in Detroit Lakes on Dec. 23, 2017 when Strand was off duty. An investigation is being led by Clay County to determine the validity of Sundvor's claims or what led up to the alleged punch.
Authorities say Chloe Conn is the name of the 14-year-old Detroit Lakes girl who died Wednesday afternoon while hiking on a trail on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Chloe, who was with her family on vacation, had just finished the eighth grade at Detroit Lakes Middle School. The school district sent out a message Thursday, stating, "Chloe’s mother, Stacy Conn, is a nursing assistant at Detroit Lakes Middle School. Chloe’s brother Christian will be a Senior at Detroit Lakes High School next fall. Chloe was a true Laker as she was an excellent student and beloved by all who knew her.
Two Detroit Lakes group home employees are facing serious sexual assault charges in separate incidents. In the first case, Varfee Kamara, 30, of 2602 18th St. S., Fargo, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony counts of first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct — victim mentally impaired.
