The bodies of a man and woman, along with two deceased dogs, were found on the 25000 block of County Road 6 in a Lakeview Township residence on Sept. 27, according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office.
Court papers say 41-year-old Shannon Brandt confessed to a 911 dispatcher and police that he killed 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson due to a political dispute.
The victim reported that when he left the bathroom inside Osage Bait & Tackle, the man was waiting for him and punched him in the face. The victim suffered a broken jaw and lost one of his teeth as a result of the punch.

In its 2021 uniform crime report released Friday, Aug. 12, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported 201 murders, an 8.5% annual increase, and a 21.6% increase in violent crime. The previous murder record was set in 2020, when Minnesota had 185 murders — a 58% increase from the 117 reported in 2019.
In total, 389 emergency calls were placed to county dispatchers since Aug. 5. By comparison, 273 emergency calls were placed last weekend during the Becker County Fair. Since Aug. 4 at WE Fest: 9 people were arrested; 24 individuals cited for minor consumption; and six transports to the hospital were required.
