Park Rapids' Ashton Clark won all three of his matches in helping Minnesota Blue claim runner-up honors at the USA Wrestling Junior Greco-Roman National Duals at Tulsa, Oklahoma, on June 19-20.
In Pool C, Minnesota Blue defeated South Dakota 59-9, Michigan Red 44-23 and Washington 52-15 to advance to the Gold/Silver Bracket. Clark posted a 15-4 technical fall win over South Dakota's Darien Malone and defeated Washington's John Seth 5-3 in a pair of 126-pound matches.
In the championship bracket, Minnesota Blue advanced to the finals with wins over Iowa (49-20), Ohio (51-15) and Oklahoma (47-21) before falling to Illinois 46-21 for the national title. Clark defeated Ohio's Logan Agin 8-0 in helping Minnesota advance to the championship match.
Jake Svihel went 2-2 as Minnesota Blue's other wrestler at 126 pounds.
Clark (who took first in both Greco and freestyle at the Northwest Tournament at Detroit Lakes, placed first in freestyle and third in Greco at the Junior State Tournament, and placed third in Greco at the Northern Plains Regional this spring) will compete at the US Marine Corps Junior National Championships at the Fargodome on July 12-19.
Clark plans to wrestle at St. Cloud State University this winter. The Huskies are the defending NCAA Division II champions, winning national titles in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
