Park Rapids' Ashton Clark and Nevis' Kyle Schmidt won quarterfinal matches Friday night at the Xcel Energy Center to earn spots in the state wrestling semifinals.
A first-period takedown and second-period reversal gave Clark a 4-2 decision over Hibbing's Francis Fuenffinger in a Class AA 113-pound quarterfinal match. Clark will face Foley's Nate Garceau in Saturday's semifinals, which begin at 10:15 a.m.
Schmidt earned a spot in the Class A 220-pound semifinals following a 5-3 overtime decision over ACGC's Tanner Berghuis. Schmidt took a 2-0 lead with a first-period takedown before forcing overtime with an escape in the third period. A takedown in overtime sent Schmidt to the semifinals in his first state appearance.
United North Central's Toby Kintzman was thrown into the wrestlebacks after dropping a 6-2 decision to Goodhue's Mason Huemann in a Class A 152-pound quarterfinal match. Hintzman will face Minneota's Cole Vanoverbeke in an elimination match.
Nevis' Dillon McGee, who opened the tournament with a 6-4 loss to Minneota's Teddy Pesch, was eliminated from the Class A 132-pound bracket when Pesch lost to OCB's Nate Hart 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
