Panthers use nine pins to spark win over Wolves

Nine wrestlers recorded pins as the Park Rapids wrestling team celebrated Senior Night with a 54-26 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.

Lucas Kritzeck's pin in 1:10 at 106 pounds and a forfeit at 113 tied the match at 6-6 before the Panthers used pins by Darryl Etter and Ashton Clark to claim an 18-6 advantage. Etter used a takedown in the first period and a reversal and nearfall in the second period to build a 6-1 advantage before recording a pin at the 3:54 mark at 120 while a quick takedown by Clark led to a pin in 53 seconds at 126.

The Wolves rallied to take the lead by winning the next three matches. Carter Rettke used a takedown and five nearfalls for a 15-0 technical fall win at 132 while a forfeit at 138 closed the gap to 18-17. Dillon McGee's pin in 1:06 at 145 gave WHAN a 23-18 edge.

Park Rapids responded by posting pins in the next five matches to seal the win.

Landen Burlingame used a takedown and nearfall to set up a pin in 1:53 at 152 before Eli Bessman followed a takedown in the first period with a reversal to start the second period that led to a pin at the 2:22 mark at 160. Dawson Roth led 5-0 behind a takedown and nearfall before recording a pin in 55 seconds at 170 while an early takedown by Cody Dravis resulted in a pin in 1:10 at 182. Jack Hensel opened the first and second periods with takedowns before recording a pin in 2:43 at 195 to give the Panthers a 48-23 advantage.

Kyle Schmidt edged Zach Hocking 4-3 at 220 as a pair of escapes in the second period tied the match at 2-2 before a takedown with 27 seconds left led to the win. Hocking held a 3-2 lead behind a takedown in the second period and an escape in the third period before Schmidt rallied for the win.

Park Rapids ended the dual with another pin as an early takedown set up a pin for Dwayne Johnson at the 1:02 mark at 285.

The win lifted Park Rapids to 2-1 on the season while the Wolves fell to 0-3 in dual meets.
