Six pins against Fosston/Bagley Thursday night helped the Park Rapids wrestling team close out the regular season with a win and tie the school record for victories in a season.
Those pins sparked the Panthers to a 48-26 victory for their 11th consecutive win. The win in the home finale at the Area High School gym also gave Park Rapids a 17-2 record, tying the school record for wins in a season set by the 2005-06 team that went 17-11.
Ashton Clark opened the meet with a 6-1 minor decision at 106 pounds before the Brawlers won the next three matches to take a 15-3 lead.
Park Rapids took control by winning the next seven matches. After Jared Sunram received a forfeit win at 132, Nolan Booge’s second-period pin at 138, Ben Baumgartner’s second-period pin at 145, Cody Dravis’ 6-4 minor decision at 152, Zach Nelson’s first-period pin at 160, Justin Dravis’ third-period pin at 170 and Zach Tretbar’s first-period pin at 182 gave the Panthers a 42-15 advantage. Chris Baxter’s first-period pin at 285 capped off the win as Fosston/Bagley fell to 7-7.
The Panthers were rated No. 23 in this week’s state Class A poll while Baumgartner (No. 4 at 138) and Justin Dravis (No. 8 at 152) were ranked individually.
