Wrestlers open season with three matches at Menahga

Pins and forfeits led Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena, United North Central and Crookston to wins over the Park Rapids wrestling team.

Allowing 16 pins and having to forfeit 10 matches resulted in three losses for the Park Rapids wrestling team in a season-opening quadrangular meet at Menahga on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena used six forfeits and three pins for a 54-30 win in the first match, United North Central used six pins and three forfeits for a 60-18 victory in the second match, and Crookston relied on seven pins and one forfeit for a 52-24 victory in the final match.

In the first match, BCLB used five forfeits and three pins to build a 48-0 lead. Joe Klein received a forfeit at 160 pounds, Kaden Safratowich received a forfeit at 170 and Harley Wellman received a forfeit at 182 before Joe Stachowski recorded a pin in 3:54 over Colter Humphrey at 195 and Hunter Carnell recorded a pin in 3:10 over Tyrese Goodman at 220 to account for the Panthers’ five wins.

Robby Sherk opened with a pin in 2:21 over Aaron Lake at 106 before UNC won the next nine matches with three forfeits, four pins and a pair of minor decisions to build a 48-6 advantage. Wellman ended that run with a pin in 42 seconds over Logan Torma at 182 before D’andre Johnson received a forfeit win at 285 for Park Rapids. Ethan Hendrickson at 113, Dylan Rasmussen at 132, Gabe Hendrickson at 145, Dakota Meech at 160, Torrey Carlson at 195 and Kevin Dailey at 220 recorded pins for the Warriors.

After Sherk received a forfeit at 106, Crookston ran off seven straight wins with five pins and a forfeit to claim a 40-6 advantage. Wellman recorded a pin in 57 seconds over Hunter Kresl at 170 and Stachowski recorded a pin in 38 seconds over Leyton Fuentes at 195 before Johnson received a forfeit at 285.
