Jake Malone and Dylan Huttunen defeated both of their opponents as the United North Central wrestling team split matches at Friday's Osakis triangular.
Pierz used four pins to defeat the Warriors 38-28 in the first match while UNC rebounded with four pins and four forfeits for a 51-30 victory over Osakis in the second match.
Austin Bacon's 7-5 decision at 113 pounds, Malone's 11-0 major decision at 126 and Sam Tellers' pin at 138 kept UNC within 14-13 before Pierz won the next three matches to build a 29-13 advantage. Mike Johnson's pin at 170, Huttunen's pin at 182 and Taylor Carlson's 5-4 decision at 220 rallied the Warriors to within 32-28 before a pin in the final match gave Pierz the win.
In the win over Osakis, the Warriors rallied from an 18-0 deficit by winning nine of the final 11 matches. A forfeit win by Cade LaCoe at 126 and pins by Malone at 132 and Max Pajari at 138 tied the match at 18-18. Forfeit wins by Tellers at 145 and Johnson at 152 and a pin by Wyatt Puttunen at 160 gave UNC a 36-18 advantage. A 13-6 minor decision by Huttunen at 182, a pin by Tanner Bacon at 195 and a forfeit win by Carlson at 220 sealed the win for the Warriors.
The split gave UNC a 4-2 record in dual meets.

Malone (No. 5 at 126), Pajari (No. 9 at 145) and Carlson (No. 4 at 220) were rated in the latest state Class A poll.

NYM holds off UNC rally
New York Mills won the final two matches via pins to rally for a 34-33 win over the Warriors last Tuesday night.
Toby Hintzman's pin at 106 pounds and Malone's 2-1 minor decision at 126 kept the Warriors within 10-9 before Pajari's pin at 138, Tellers' pin at 145 and Johnson's 11-9 minor decision at 152 gave UNC a 24-13 lead.

Huttunen's pin at 170 and Carlson's 3-1 minor decision in overtime at 195 gave the Warriors a 33-22 advantage before NYM rallied for the win.
