The United North Central wrestling team defeated another rated opponent in sweeping both matches during a triangular meet at Sebeka on Thursday, Feb. 4.
UNC routed Wadena-Deer Creek 78-4 and defeated Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus 41-28. PLPRB, which was rated No. 8 in the latest state Class AA poll, rolled to a 73-4 victory over W-DC in the other match.
Pins by Hunter Skaro at 132 pounds, Ethan Hendrickson at 138, Dylan Rasmussen at 145, Hank Tellers at 152, Eion Ness at 160 and Dakota Meech at 170 led the Warriors past W-DC. Receiving forfeit wins for UNC were Reid Pinoniemi at 113, Zach Hendrickson at 120, Wyatt Olson at 126, Shawn Hendrickson at 182, Torrey Carlson at 195, Cooper Hasbargen at 220 and Marcus Peterson at 285.
Two pins and five decisions gave UNC a 32-12 lead against PLPRB before wins in the final two matches sealed the victory against the Road Crew. Pinoniemi at 113 and Zach Hendrickson at 120 recorded pins while Ethan Hendrickson’s 11-3 major decision at 132, Rasmussen’s 9-4 minor decision at 138, Tellers’ 17-2 technical fall at 145, Ness’ 19-4 technical fall at 152 and Meech’s 10-4 minor decision at 160 put the Warriors in control. PLPRB rallied to within 32-28, but Carlson’s 1-0 minor decision at 220 and Peterson’s pin at 285 gave UNC the win.
The Warriors, who were rated No. 12 in the state Class A poll, improved to 11-5 in dual meets this season. The split gave PLPRB a 10-2 record while W-DC fell to 1-11.

Warriors split
The Warriors split a pair of matches at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville triangular on Feb. 2.
UNC used nine forfeits to defeat Red Lake County Central 66-12 and followed with a 47-16 loss to LPGE/B.
Forfeits to Fordyce Johnson, Pinoniemi, Zach Hendrickson, Skaro, Ethan Hendrickson and Rasmussen in the first six matches gave the Warriors a 36-0 lead against RLCC. Pins by Tellers at 145 and Carlson at 195 and forfeits to Ness at 152, Meech at 160 and Peterson at 285 capped off the scoring for UNC.
LPGEB, which topped the Class A poll, used two pins and eight decisions to defeat the Warriors. Ethan Hendrickson’s 14-6 major decision at 132 and pins by Meech at 170 and Logan Torma at 182 accounted for UNC’s scoring.
The Wolves defeated RLCC 72-12 in the other match to improve to 12-0 on the season. RLCC fell to 1-9.
