Walsh's 3-pointers spark Panthers' win over Bagley

Kaiden Walsh hit four 3-pointers to spark a pair of rallies by the Park Rapids boys basketball team in a 55-52 victory over Bagley in a game between Section 8AA opponents Feb. 28 at the Area High School gym.

Kaiden Walsh hit four 3-pointers to spark a pair of rallies by the Park Rapids boys basketball team in a 55-52 victory over Bagley in a game between Section 8AA opponents Feb. 28 at the Area High School gym.

Joshua Wilson's layup and 3-pointer gave Bagley an early 7-2 lead before a basket off a rebound by Preston Renneberg and layups by Shawn Ohm and Gabe Bagstad tied the game at 10-10 with 11:59 to play in the first half.

Bagley used 3-pointers by Wilson, Kenly Gordon and James Hvezda to claim a 21-13 lead at the 7:31 mark before a jumper by Bagstad, a basket off a rebound by Nick Michaelson and two 3-pointers by Walsh tied the game at 23-23. After Renneberg scored off a rebound to tie the game at 25-25, a layup and 3-pointer by Alex Norum gave Bagley a 32-25 lead at the intermission.

The Flyers led 34-26 with 15:49 to play before a jumper by Ty Karger, a layup by Kolby Brandt and two 3-pointers by Walsh sparked a 12-2 run that gave Park Rapids a 38-36 advantage with 11:30 to play. A 3-pointer by Hvezda and two layups by Zachary Anderson gave Bagley a 43-42 edge with 7:58 to go before the Panthers used a three-point play by Michaelson and two baskets by Bagstad to claim a 51-43 lead with 4:32 remaining.

Another 3-pointer by Hvezda pulled the Flyers to within 53-50 with 2:15 to play before Michaelson's layup at the 1:24 mark made it 55-50. Gordon's layup with :46 remaining concluded the scoring as Park Rapids prevailed.

Michaelson (15), Walsh (14) and Bagstad (11) scored in double figures for the Panthers, who improved to 5-6 against section teams and 8-15 overall.

Hvezda (15), Wilson (13) and Gordon (11) led a balanced scoring attack for Bagley, which fell to 1-7 against section opponents and 6-19 overall after losing for the sixth game in a row.
