Track teams compete at Beaver Relays

Natalia Lopez, Paige Johnson, Morgan Koppelman and Jada Renneberg in the 4 x 800-meter relay and Avery Wolff in the high jump turned in winning performances for the Park Rapids track and field teams at the Beaver Relays at Bemidji State University on Tuesday, April 9.

Lopez, Johnson, Koppelman and Renneberg clocked a winning time of 10:46.56 in the opening relay in helping the Park Rapids girls score 57 points and place third out of 20 teams in the third indoor meet of the season at the Gillett Wellness Center. Wolff cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to tie for first in the high jump as the Park Rapids boys placed fifth with 39 points.

Thief River Falls captured the girls title with 95 points while Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton won the boys title with 109 points. Nevis finished eighth in the girls meet with 36 points and 14th in the boys meet with 10 points.

Adding runner-up showings for the Park Rapids girls were Hannah Morgain in the 200 dash (27.63) and Kendra Scholz, Holly Johnson, Julia Johnson and Morgan in the 4 x 200 relay (1:53.77). Morgan also placed third in the long jump at 16-10 while the 4 x 400 relay team of Holly Johnson, Koppelman, Paige Johnson and Lopez took third in 4:29.43.

Also scoring points for the Panthers were Julia Harmon in the 3,200 run (fourth in 13:06.25), Paige Johnson in the high jump (fourth at 4-8), Holly Johnson in the pole vault (tied for fourth at 7-6) and 400 dash (eighth in 1:04.63), Morgan in the 60 dash (sixth in 8.32) and Renneberg in the 1,600 run (eighth in 5:56.28).

Leading the Panthers in the other events were Riley Pike in the triple jump (15th at 28-6), Quinn Hunter in the 60 hurdles (21st in 11.56), Cora Willenbring in the shot put (22nd at 27-7) and Liesl Smee in the 800 run (30th in 3:00.18).

Seth Breitweser clocked a runner-up time of 2:05.58 in the 800 run and joined Kolby Brandt, Lane Monaghan and Skyler Hagen on the 4 x 800 relay team that placed third in 9:08.90 for the Panthers' other top efforts in the boys meet.

Rounding out the team score for the Park Rapids boys were Jake Reish in the high jump (fifth at 5-6); Jerry Engst in the triple jump (fifth at 38-7); Kaleb Stearns, Chris Day, Lane Monaghan and Breitweser in the 4 x 400 relay (fifth in 3:48.57); Day, Engst, Brian Karkinen and Spencer Fritze in the 4 x 200 relay (seventh in 1:42.31); and Max Crist in the 60 hurdles (eighth in 9.79).

The other top finishers for the Panthers were Spencer Fritze in the pole vault (12th at 10 feet) and 200 dash (35th in 26.76), Darryl Etter in the 3,200 run (12th in 12:00.68), Hagen in the 1,600 run (13th in 5:08.98), Reish in the long jump (tied for 13th at 18 feet), Payton Hill in the shot put (15th at 39-9.50), Tristan Hill in the discus (18th at 95-11), Zach Fritze in the 60 dash (19th in 7.75) and Brandt in the 400 dash (24th in 58.59).

Cole Mastley took first in the discus with a throw of 94-11 and placed sixth in the shot put at 32-7 while Andrea Dudley was the runner-up in the triple jump at 32-11 to lead the Nevis girls. Also placing for the Tigers were Dudley in the 60 hurdles (third in 10.61), Jade Rypkema in the 1,600 run (third in 5:48.05), and the 4 x 400 relay team (sixth in 4:40.41).

Leading the Nevis girls in the other events were Makenna Frazier in the 400 dash (10th in 1:06.20), Addison Lindow in the 1,600 run (17th in 2:49.01), Dudley in the 60 dash (25th in 8.92) and Marley Mitchell in the 200 dash (34th in 31.33).

Luke DeWulf placed third in the long jump at 20-6.50 and fifth in the 60 dash in 7.45 to account for the Tigers' points in the boys meet.

The top performers for the Nevis boys in the other events were Jack McNamee in the 800 run (ninth in 2:15.50), DeWulf in the 200 dash (10th in 25.03), Evan Pohl in the 1,600 run (17th in 5:15.30), Theo Eisele in the high jump (32nd at 4-10), Nathan Pyburn in the long jump (68th at 13-3) and Jon Rice in the 400 dash (75th in 1:08.48).

Rypkema, Dudley place at NDSU

Rypkema and Dudley placed at the Bison High School Indoor Classic at North Dakota State University on April 5.

Rypkema placed sixth in the 3,200 run in 12:51.33 while Dudley placed seventh in the triple jump at 31-4.25 as the Nevis girls scored 5 points to finish 16th out of 20 teams. Fargo Davies won the team title with 171.33 points.

No Nevis boys placed at this indoor meet.
