Park Rapids' Megan Grimes concluded her collegiate track and field career by placing third in the heptathlon at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at Northfield's Laird Stadium on May 2-3.
Grimes scored 4,013 points to help St. Olaf finish third in the team standings with 116 points. St. Thomas won the MIAC title with 156.50 points while Hamline took second with 136 points.
The St. Olaf senior took first in the shot put with a distance of 36 feet, 1.25 inches for 595 points, was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 27.31 for 686 points and took third in the long jump at 16-1.75 for 538 points. Grimes finished fifth in the high jump by clearing 4-9.75 for 588 points, placed eighth in both the 100-meter hurdles in 16.87 to score 611 points and in the 800 run in 2:38.68 for 588 points, and finished ninth in the javelin throw at 86-5 for 407 points.
St. Olaf's Mackenzie Schoustra won the heptathlon title with 4,296 points.
At the MIAC meet at St. Paul's O'Shaughnessy Stadium on May 10-11, Grimes placed 19th in the shot put with a distance of 34-2. Gustavus' Annalee Olson-Sola took first with a throw of 42-8.
At the Minnesota Women's Twilight meet on April 24, Grimes finished 14th in the javelin at 78-11 and ran on St. Olaf's third-place 4 x 400 relay team that clocked a 4:15.96. Grimes began the outdoor season at the Hamline Coed Invitational on April 6 by placing 15th in the 100 dash in 13.81, 31st in the shot put at 26-2.75 and 39th in the javelin at 44-5.
Park Rapids' Jaiden McCollum capped off her freshman season at St. Benedict by competing at the MIAC meet at St. Paul's O'Shaughnessy Stadium on May 10-11.
McCollum placed 15th in the shot put with a throw of 35-10.5. St. Benedict placed eighth in the team standings with 63.50 points.
McCollum started the outdoor season at the Trinity Open at San Antonio, Texas, on March 2 by placing seventh in the shot put (35-7.25), 15th in the discus (95-11), 18th in the hammer throw (78-5) and 18th in the javelin (67-1).
At the St. Benedict Outdoor at Collegeville on March 31, McCollum placed 12th in the shot put (32-10.5), 18th in the discus (85-0) and 19th in the hammer throw (93-2).
McCollum finished sixth in the shot put (36-8.5), 20th in the discus (98-0), 28th in the javelin (62-3) and 34th in the hammer throw (96-1) at the Hamline Invitational on April 6 at St. Paul and followed by placing sixth in the shot put (37-6.5), 13th in the discus (87-9), 14th in the hammer throw (93-9) and 17th in the javelin (78-2) at the St. Olaf Manitou Classic at Northfield on April 18.
At the Gustavus Alternative at St. Paul on April 26, McCollum finished 12th in the shot put (35-10) and 15th in the javelin (72-8) before tuning up for the MIAC meet by placing eighth in the shot put (34-5.75) and 15th in the javelin (74-0) at the Tommie Twilight at St. Paul on May 1.
