Tigers end regular season with two wins

The Nevis girls basketball team improved to 7-18 with road victories against Hill City/Northland and Bagley.

Getting off to fast starts helped the Nevis girls basketball team end the regular season with a pair of victories on the road.

The Tigers jumped out to a 14-5 lead in a 69-50 win over Hill City/Northland on Feb. 13 and used a 20-6 start to spark a 69-40 victory at Bagley on Feb. 14.

Against Hill City/Northland, two layups by Makenna Frazier, a three-point play by Kia Heide, and layups by Ava Isaacson and Addison Lindow gave Nevis the early lead. Three more baskets by Frazier, two layups apiece by Isaacson and Heide, a layup by Lindow, and a 3-pointer by Emily Funk gave the Tigers a 35-28 advantage at the half.

Funk, Frazier and Isaacson combined for 11 points as Nevis claimed a 50-40 lead before a layup and a 3-pointer by Mya Stacey and a jumper by Isaacson made it 57-40. A 3-pointer by Kayli Bessler, layups by Frazier and Heide, and a basket off a rebound by Amya Gilmore capped off the win.

Frazier (17), Isaacson (13) and Heide (11) scored in double figures for the Tigers as Hill City/Northland fell to 7-16 on the season.

Isaacson’s double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds paced the Tigers past Bagley in the regular-season finale.

Three baskets apiece by Isaacson and Lindow and a 3-pointer by Bessler helped the Tigers take control early. Frazier’s four baskets and layups by Heide and Isaacson gave Nevis a 36-18 advantage at the break.

Three-pointers by Stacey and Funk and baskets by Stacey, Frazier and Funk pushed the lead to 52-27. Two jumpers by Lindow, jumpers by Izzy Wallace and Stacey, and a layup by Isaacson helped Nevis maintain at least a 20-point lead the rest of the way.

Isaacson also had six assists and five steals while Frazier added 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Lindow chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals while Heide hauled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists as the Tigers overcame 26 missed free throws by forcing 38 turnovers. The win lifted Nevis’ record to 7-18 on the season.

Kyra Frank (14) and Kathryn Agnew (13) scored in double figures for the Flyers, who fell to 0-24.
