The Nevis boys basketball team picked up another Northland Conference win and an impressive win at Target Center to improve to 19-2 on the season.
Gavin Becker scored 30 points in leading the Tigers to a 68-57 conference win over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Thursday night while Griffin Chase scored 23 points as Nevis defeated Northland Remer 79-48 at Target Center Saturday afternoon.
Griffin Chase added 22 points, eight steals and five assists while Courtland Chase had seven rebounds in the win over W-H-A. Kevin Hale had four rebounds and Michael Landquist had six assists and three steals as the Tigers improved to 11-2 in conference play.
The Wolves fell to 5-6 in the conference and 10-11 overall.
“It wasn’t always pretty, but we got the job done,” said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer, whose team led 40-30 at the half. “I thought we really struggled getting the ball inside, but fortunately we hit some shots and free throws down the stretch to get the win.”

Landquist (12) and Becker (10) also hit double figures in helping the Tigers defeat Northland. Courtland Chase had eight rebounds while Hale and Landquist had five rebounds each. Griffin Chase also led the way with seven assists and five steals. Landquist and Zach Henry had four assists each while Becker and Brett Byer had two steals apiece.
Northland, which trailed 51-26 at the half, fell to 4-14.
“It was a great game for us in every way. The kids had a great time and experience playing at Target Center and we played well from the beginning, which allowed us to get all the kids some playing time,” said Kramer. “Once we had a manageable lead, our guys couldn’t resist the temptation to shoot an NBA 3 and the reserves were no different as we were able to run up and down and get plenty of shots. This type of game was much needed for us as we had been playing a little tight with every opponent giving us everything they have. The kids deserved to get a game where the focus was on having a little freedom and fun.”
