Thief River Falls solidified its spot as one of the top volleyball teams in Section 8AA with a 3-1 win over Park Rapids at the Area High School gym on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
The Prowlers improved to 6-2 in section matches and 8-4 overall with a 25-21, 25-8, 16-25, 25-20 victory.
A block by Riley Pike and an ace serve by Kate Aukes gave Park Rapids a 3-2 lead in Set 1. After TRF claimed an 8-4 advantage, a kill by Pike and consecutive blocks by Abby Felt and Chloe Tretbar made it 8-7. The Prowlers extended their lead to 14-9 before a kill by Alison Scholz, two ace serves by Marriyam Ejaz and a pair of kills by Quinn Hunter closed the gap to 17-15. A kill by Felts and a tip by Hunter kept the Panthers within 22-21 before TRF closed out the opening set.
Carlie Rogalla served 14 straight points as the Prowlers jumped out to a 15-1 lead in Set 2. A kill and an ace serve by Aukes and a kill by Tretbar ended that run. TRF led 24-7 before Tretbar served an ace. The Prowlers earned the next point to take a 2-0 lead.
Two kills by Pike, kills by Hunter, Scholz and Felts, and an ace serve by Pike gave Park Rapids a 9-5 lead to start Set 3. A kill and an ace serve by Aukes, consecutive kills by Pike, a block by Felts and Pike, and an ace serve by Pike pushed the Panthers’ advantage to 20-11. Two kills by Aukes and a block by Tretbar and Hunter forced another set.

Ejaz served an ace and Hunter had a kill as Park Rapids opened Set 4 with a 5-2 edge. Two kills by Felts made it 12-7 before the Prowlers rallied behind a pair of ace serves and a 5-0 service run by Josie Johnson to tie the set at 14-14. An ace serve by Aukes knotted the set at 17-17 while a kill by Hunter and two kills by Felts kept Park Rapids within 23-20. The Prowlers won the next two points to seal the win.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 0-3 against section opponents and 2-8 overall. Barnesville (14-4), Hawley (9-2) and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (5-2) joined TRF atop the Section 8AA standings.

Patriots sweep
Maci Martin’s 22 kills led Pequot Lakes to a 3-0 Mid-State Conference win over the Panthers at Pequot Lakes on Sept. 23.
The Patriots had 37 kills and 14 blocks in the 25-8, 25-10, 25-8 victory.
Pequot Lakes improved to 3-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall while the Panthers fell to 2-1 in Mid-State matches.
