Menahga, Park Rapids open section playoffs at home

Menahga and Park Rapids earned home games to kick off the section fastpitch softball playoffs.

Menahga received the No. 3 seed in the West half of Section 5A with a 7-10 record and will host No. 6 Nevis (8-9) on Monday (May 20) at 5 p.m. in a first-round game. The winner of that game plays the winner between No. 2 Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale (13-7) and No. 7 Laporte (1-8) on Tuesday (May 21) at 5 p.m. at the high seed. Sebeka (13-7) received the No. 1 seed in the West while Isle (14-3) received the No. 1 seed in the East.

Park Rapids received the No. 2 seed with a 19-1 record in the North for the Section 8AA playoffs and will host No. 7 Bagley (11-9) on Tuesday (May 21) at 5 p.m. in a first-round game. The winner of that game plays the winner between No. 3 Warroad (11-9) and No. 6 East Polk (8-8) on Thursday (May 23) at Park Rapids at 4 p.m. Thief River Falls (18-3) received the No. 1 seed in the North and will open against No. 8 Crookston (2-17) while No. 4 Roseau (10-9) hosts No. 5 East Grand Forks (9-9) in the other North quarterfinal game. The winners of those games will also play at Park Rapids on Thursday (May 23) at 4 p.m. The winners and losers of those game will play again at 5:30 p.m. in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

In the South half of Section 8AA, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (17-3) received the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 Ottertail Central (2-17) in a first-round game on Tuesday (May 21). The other first-round games pit No. 2 Hawley (15-5) against No. 7 Breckenridge (2-14), No. 3 Pequot Lakes (12-5) against No. 6 Barnesville (3-21) and No. 4 Perham (9-6) against No. 5 Wadena-Deer Creek (9-11). Frazee will host the next rounds on Thursday (May 23) before the tournament moves to Park Rapids for the finals on May 28 and May 30.
