Michaelson throws another perfect game, D-G-F hands Panthers first loss
It was a case of deja vu for Rilee Michaelson and the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team.
On May 4, Michaelson threw a perfect game as the Panthers defeated Crookston 21-0 in four innings.
Michaelson duplicated that feat on Monday (May 13) by once again facing the minimum 12 batters in another 21-0 four-inning victory over Crookston at the Area High School field. Michaelson struck out seven and retired the other five batters on ground outs.
The offense belted out 17 hits, including six extra-base hits, to spark the Panthers' 10th win via the 10-run rule this season.
An 11-run first inning set the tone as RBI singles by Kendra Coborn, Kylee Pachel and Michaelson; an RBI triple by Katelyn Weaver; an RBI double by Shailyn Pachel; and a grand-slam home run by Kylee Pachel provided a commanding lead.
RBI doubles by Natalie Kinkel and Kaisa Coborn and an RBI single by Weaver extended the lead to 19-0 in the second before RBI singles by Michaelson and Weaver concluded the scoring in the third.
Kinkel (3 for 4, two runs), Kaisa Coborn (2 for 3, three runs, two RBI), Kylee Pachel (3 for 3, four runs, five RBI), Michaelson (2 for 4, two runs, two RBI) and Shailyn Pachel (2 for 2, two runs) led the offense as the Pirates fell to 0-10 in Section 8AA games and 0-15 overall.

Rebels edge Panthers
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the Panthers' undefeated season with a 6-5 walk-off win at Glyndon on Tuesday, May 14.
The Panthers built a 4-0 lead before D-G-F rallied. Kinkel led off the game with a triple and scored on Kylee Pachel's grounder before Shailyn Pachel led off the second with a double and scored on Abby Morris' RBI single. Singles by Shailyn Pachel and Morris set up a two-run single by Kinkel in the fourth to give Park Rapids the early lead.
D-G-F used two errors, Evelyn Moe's two-run single and Morgan Tollefson's RBI single to claim a 5-4 lead in the fifth before Morris singled and scored on Kendra Coborn's RBI double to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth. The Rebels won it in the seventh when Skylar Spessard led off with a single and scored on a throwing error on Kiarra Summers' bunt.
Park Rapids belted out 14 hits, but stranded nine runners on base. Kinkel and Kendra Coborn both went 3 for 4, Morris went 3 for 3 and Shailyn Pachel went 2 for 3 to lead the Panthers' offense. Michaelson took the loss, allowing the unearned run in the seventh. Michaelson started and allowed only one hit over the first three innings before re-entering for Allison Offerdahl, who gave up five runs on four hits over three innings. Six errors led to four unearned runs.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 8-1 in the section and 17-1 overall while D-G-F improved to 9-1 in section games and 14-2 overall.
"There are definitely good things that came out of our game against DGF. We hit the ball well. We had 14 hits against a decent pitcher. They had a hard time catching up with Rilee's pitching. We left seven runners in scoring position during the game. One hit anywhere could have turned the tide. Unfortunately, we had more errors than we have had all season. It's very unlike us to have six errors in a game," said Park Rapids head coach Marion Goeden, whose team is 2-6 against D-G-F in the last four seasons with five of those losses coming in the section playoffs. "DGF has five pitchers. We may not have seen their top pitcher and we didn't use ours for the whole game, so if we are to meet again in playoffs this should be another heated contest. We look forward to playing them again."
