After getting off to a slow start offensively, the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team erupted for 34 runs in seven innings to sweep a Mid-State Conference doubleheader from Aitkin at the Area High School field on Tuesday, April 30.
The Panthers broke open a 2-2 tie to win the opener 12-2 in five innings and followed with a 24-1 victory in four innings in the second game to improve to 6-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall.
In the first game, Aitkin took advantage of an error to score two unearned runs in the first inning before the Panthers tied it with single runs in the first and second. Four walks led to three runs in the third before a double by Kaisa Coborn, singles by Kylee Pachel and Katelyn Weaver, an RBI single by Abby Morris, and a two-run single by Rilee Michaelson made it 10-2 in the fourth. Park Rapids ended this game via the 10-run rule by scoring two more runs in the fifth.
Pachel and Morris both went 2 for 3 with two runs scored to spark an eight-hit attack while Michaelson threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts for the win.
The Panthers followed a six-run first inning with a 12-run second inning to complete the sweep via the 15-run rule in the second game.
Three errors, an RBI double by Pachel and RBI singles by Kaisa Coborn and Morris gave the Panthers a 6-0 lead before six errors, Pachel's pair of two-run doubles, and RBI singles by Weaver, Ellie Ulvin and Kendra Coborn pushed the lead to 18-0 in the second. A solo homer by Michaelson, an RBI double by Pachel, and RBI singles by Kendra Coborn and Allison Offerdahl concluded the scoring in the fourth.
Pachel went 4 for 4 with five runs and six RBI, Michaelson went 3 for 5 with three runs and two RBI, Kendra Coborn went 2 for 4 with three runs and three RBI, and Kaisa Coborn scored five runs to lead the Panthers' 17-hit attack. Michaelson and Offerdahl combined on a three-hitter with six strikeouts as Aitkin fell to 2-2 in the conference and 2-4 overall.

Panthers sweep PL
The Panthers belted out 27 hits to spark a conference doubleheader sweep over Pequot Lakes at Park Rapids on April 26.
A 12-hit attack led a 10-0 six-inning victory in the first game while a 15-hit attack ignited a 21-6 victory in the second game.
In the opener, two errors, a two-run double by Kaisa Coborn and a two-run single by Michaelson gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead in the third inning; an RBI double by Michaelson and an RBI triple by Weaver made it 6-0 in the fourth; an RBI double by Kaisa Coborn and an RBI single by Pachel increased the lead to 8-0 in the fifth; and an RBI single by Ulvin and an error produced the game-ending runs in the sixth.
Kaisa Coborn (3 for 5, three runs, three RBI) and Michaelson (3 for 3, three RBI) led the Panthers' offense while Michaelson threw a four-hit complete game with nine strikeouts.
In the second game, the Panthers broke open a close game by scoring six runs in the fifth, four runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh to complete the sweep. Pachel's two-run homer in the first; Michaelson's two-run single in the fifth; RBI singles by Weaver and Pachel in the sixth; and RBI singles by Morris and Pachel in the seventh sparked the offense.
Kylee Pachel (5 for 5, five runs, four RBI), Natalie Kinkel (2 for 4, three runs), Weaver (2 for 6, three runs, three RBI), Shailyn Pachel (2 for 5, three runs) and Morris (2 for 4, three runs, two RBI) led the offense while Michaelson allowed five hits and struck out six in another complete-game effort.
Pequot Lakes, which committed 12 errors in the doubleheader, fell to 0-2 in the conference and 2-4 overall.
"I'm pleased with how we are playing. We are having a lot of fun," said Park Rapids head coach Marion Goeden. "We had a little letdown in our second game with Pequot Lakes. It was a good thing because we learned a little more about out grit. We realize we aren't perfect and we didn't let those errors hang around. We left them in the past and focused on what was next."

Panthers defeat W-DC
Home runs by Kylee Pachel and Michaelson sparked the Panthers to a 12-1 five-inning victory over Wadena-Deer Creek at Wadena on April 25.
Kylee Pachel's two-run blast gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the first inning while Michaelson's solo homer started a four-run second. Kylee Pachel added a two-run double in that inning. A six-run fifth inning sealed the win as an RBI single by Michaelson and a two-run double by Kylee Pachel highlighted that inning.
Kylee Pachel went 4 for 4 with three doubles and six RBI while Michealson went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Kaisa Coborn went 2 for 4 and Kendra Coborn went 2 for 3 to cap off the Panthers' 10-hit attack. Michaelson threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts for the win.
