Bobby Lusti threw a complete game in Midway’s 15-2 victory over Verndale Sunday afternoon.

     Solid pitching performances by Jake Lund and Bobby Lusti led Midway to a pair of amateur baseball victories last weekend.

     Lund gave up one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts over six innings as Midway edged Pelican Rapids 4-3 last Saturday at Matt Leritz Stadium.

     Lusti followed with a seven-hit complete game with nine strikeouts as the Snurdbirds routed Verndale 15-2 in seven innings last Sunday at Midway.

     Midway jumped out to a 4-1 lead before holding on for the win against Pelican Rapids as the Lakers scored twice in the eighth inning.

     The Snurdbirds finished with seven hits with Robert Weaver leading the way by going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Chris Baso, Steve Wetterling, Lund, Mike Baso and Lusti all had one hit apiece with Zach Etter, Drew Rasmussen, Chris Baso and Lund scoring a run each. Lund also had an RBI.

     Etter allowed two runs on one hit and four walks in two innings before Stetson Burkman gave up two hits in the ninth for the save.

     A 15-hit attack sparked the Snurdbirds to a Lake and Pine League victory over Verndale.

     Midway broke open a 1-1 tie by scoring four times in the third, twice in the fourth, three times in the fifth and five times in the sixth.

     Wetterling went 3 for 5 with a double and home run, scored twice and drove in five. Ray Mueller went 3 for 3 with two RBI and Frank Moren went 3 for 5 with a run and two RBI. Rasmussen went 2 for 2 with three runs while Chris Baso, Weaver, Sean Dormanen and Kyle Dormanen had one hit each. Chris Baso and Kyle Dormanen scored two runs each while Sean Dormanen had two RBI as Midway improved to 9-9 on the season.

     The Bison scored their other run in the seventh.
