A late rally helped Midway close out the Lake and Pine League regular season with a win Sunday afternoon at Staples.

Staples scored once in the third inning and four times in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead before the Snurdbirds scored twice in the sixth and four times in the seventh to rally for a 6-5 amateur baseball victory.

Ray Mueller went 2 for 5 with three RBI and Mike Baso went 1 for 4 with a run and two RBI to lead Midway. Drew Rasmussen (1 for 5, two runs), Brett Dormanen (1 for 5, one RBI) and Alex White (1 for 3, one run) also aided the offense for Midway, which finished with six hits. Mike Baso, Dormanen and Mueller had doubles while Chris Baso and Jake Lund scored the other runs.

Bobby Lusti picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out four over three innings. Stetson Burkman pitched the first four innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two. Lund walked one and struck out four over the final two innings for the save.

Midway closed out the regular season with a 13-1 league record and 16-5 overall record.

The Snurdbirds open the Region 14C tournament by playing either Perham or Sebeka Sunday at noon at Deer Creek.
