Several Park Rapids athletes spent spring competing at collegiate level

Several recent Park Rapids Area High School graduates competed at the collegiate level this spring.

Haugland competes at Liberty

Laura Haugland competed at the NCAA Division I level in the high jump as a member of the Liberty University women's track and field team.

During the indoor season, Haugland finished fifth by clearing 5 feet, 1 inch at the Liberty Quad. Haugland also placed 19th at the Big South Conference meet by clearing 4-9.

Haugland, a freshman, set her season best at the Liberty Invitational outdoor meet by clearing 5-1.75 for third place. Haugland finished third at the Liberty Twilight meet by clearing 4-11 and tied for 10th at the Big South Conference meet by clearing 5-1.

During her other outdoor appearances, Haugland finished fifth at the Lynchburg Classic by clearing 4-9.75, finished third at the VMI Invitational and finished seventh at the Lynchburg Invitational.

Haugland's career best is 5-2 during her senior season at Park Rapids.

Schweigart plays at CLC

Kelli Schweigart helped the Central Lakes College women's softball team win the Region 13B title and advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III tournament.

Schweigart played outfield in 20 games in helping the Brainerd community college go 26-17 this season. Schweigart hit .341 (15 for 44) with two doubles, one triple, nine RBI, 11 runs and three stolen bases.

The Raid-ers finished third in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference with an 18-8 record. CLC then won the Region 13B title with wins over Itasca (2-0), Northland (5-0) and Itasca (1-0).

CLC finished seventh at the national tournament, losing to Dupage 4-3 in 12 innings and Rochester 5-2 and defeating Westmoreland 4-1.

Juberian starts for Saints

Tom Juberian helped the St. Scholastica baseball team win its 13th consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title and qualify for the NCAA Division III tournament for the fifth year in a row.

Juberian, a freshman, appeared in 32 games, including 24 as a starter in the outfield and third base. Juberian hit .337 (34 for 101) with 27 runs and 30 RBI. Juberian had six doubles, three triples and one home run and stole eight bases in helping the Saints go 19-1 in conference play and 36-7 overall.

Juberian's best game was against Bethany Lutheran where he went 4 for 5 with three RBI. Juberian also had three RBI against Hiram College and Minnesota-Morris and went 3 for 3 with three RBI against Northwestern College. Juberian also went 2 for 3 with four runs and three RBI against Crown College during the regular season.

St. Scholastica defeated St. Norbert College 7-6 in 11 innings in the tournament opener before being eliminated with losses to the University of St. Thomas 8-4 and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 9-3. Juberian had an RBI double to give the Saints a 2-0 lead in the game against Stevens Point.

Harsha starts at Mayville

Kristen Harsha concluded her senior season as a member of the Mayville State women's softball team.

Harsha started all 41 games at shortstop and third base and batted .276 (27 for 98) with 18 runs and 12 RBI. Harsha had six doubles, one triple and three home runs in helping Mayville go 3-15 in Dakota Athletic Conference play and 9-32 overall.

Schmid plays for Jamestown

Eric Schmid concluded his senior season as a member of the Jamestown College baseball team.

In 14 games, four as a starting outfielder, Schmid hit .273 (3 for 11) with five runs, one triple and three RBI.

Jamestown went 10-6 in DAC play and 26-11 overall.

Christianson throws at BSU

Kyle Christianson completed his junior season as a member of the Bemidji State University men's track and field team.

Christianson capped off the season by placing eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 146 feet, 1 inch and 13th in the discus with a toss of 131-11 at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships. BSU finished 10th with 39 points in that meet.

During the regular season, Christianson competed in the throwing events in five other outdoor meets.

At the Northern State Quad, Christianson placed fourth in the shot put (41-1.75), fourth in the hammer throw (132-2) and seventh in the discus (118-6).

At the Bulldog Open in Duluth, Christianson finished fifth in the discus (127-7) and eighth in the shot put (38-9).

Christianson took eighth in the hammer throw (133-6) and didn't place in the discus (128-0) at the Cobber Twilight meet in Moorhead.

After placing 13th in the discus (126-7) at the Al Cassel Relays in Jamestown, ND, Christianson didn't place in the discus (118-10) or hammer throw (141-8) at the Ron Masanz Open in Moorhead.

Utke, Luther hit the court

Alison Utke and Amy Luther competed in women's tennis in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this spring.

Utke had a 3-1 record in singles for Gustavus Adolphus. Utke, a junior, went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 6 singles in two dual meets and had a 1-1 record in singles in tournament play. Utke also went 0-2 in doubles in tournament action. Gustavus had a 10-0 record in MIAC duals and a 23-10 overall mark.

Luther, a sophomore, had an 0-1 record at No. 5 singles and a 1-0 record at No. 3 doubles for Concordia College. The Cobbers went 5-5 in MIAC duals and 13-7 overall.
