Alyssa Semmler's 26 points and Rylie Hirschey's 15 points sparked Pine River-Backus to a 63-41 Northwoods Conference victory over the Nevis girls basketball team Tuesday night at Pine River.
PR-B improved to 12-1 in the conference and 18-5 overall. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Clearbrook-Gonvick are tied for second place in the conference standings with 9-2 records.
Kia Heide scored 15 points and had five rebounds to lead Nevis, which fell to 3-10 in the conference and 4-17 overall. Montana Baker (8) and Emma Bliss (7) combined for 15 points while Madisyn Lucas had five rebounds and three assists. Ashley Pyburn led the Tigers with four steals while Heide, Bliss, Baker and Katie Kamphaus blocked two shots each.
"Our girls played a great game. We played hard for 36 minutes and had one of our best shooting performances of the year and limited our turnovers against a team that likes to put the pressure on. One of the things that hurt us the most was rebounding. They out-hustled us to the ball and ended up with some easy baskets," said Nevis head coach Brad Neyens. "Our record may not be that good, but this team is growing and learning with every game. I look forward to the upcoming years."
