Rypkema runs to runner-up honors at Milaca Mega Meet

UNC girls finish 13th, Nevis boys place 11th

Neivs’ Jade Rypkema ran to runner-up honors in the Division 4 field at the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Rypkema covered the 5K course in 19:51 in leading Nevis to 20th place in this 43-team girls cross-country meet. Molly Lindow (111st in 24:57), Pagie Schuft (129th in 25:35), Emily Funk (137th in 25:50) and Grace McNamee (139th in 25:50) rounded out the Tigers’ 494 team score.

United North Central finished 13th with 384 points behind Anjalie Aho (37th in 22:44), Kaarin Lehto (45th in 23:00), Kate Hendickson (63rd in 23:33), Molly Hendrickson (98th in 24:31) and Hope Shepersky (163rd in 26:58).

Park Rapids fielded an incomplete team with Holly Johnson (90th in 24:22), Amelia Berg (132nd in 25:41) and Julia Harmon (158th in 26:41) competing.

Mesabi East’s Ava Hill led the 228-runner field in 19:35 while Minneota-Canby won the team title with 159 points.

In the boys meet, Nevis finished 11th with 316 points with Jack McNamee (37th in 18:18), Evan Pohl (42nd in 18:30), Michael Gunn (60th in 18:51), George Bjorklund (76th in 19:18) and Reese Mowell (136th in 20:31) leading the way.

Park Rapids placed 25th out of 51 teams with 653 points behind Darryl Thompson-Etter (85th in 19:22), Skylar Hagen (124th in 20:17), Kaleb Stearns (146th in 20:45), Kolby Brandt (178th in 21:36) and Hunter Brandt (219th in 22:38).

Andreas Aho (72nd in 19:10), Christian Johnson (130th in 20:20), Charlie Hodge (194th in 22:00) and Sam Jackola (196th in 22:04) competed for UNC.

Jacob Bright led the 306-runner field in 16:47 in leading West Central Area to the team title with 67 points.
