Wrestling: Forfeits rally Hibbing, Frazee past Park Rapids

The Panthers fell to 8-13 in dual meets with the pair of home losses.

PARK RAPIDS – Despite two pins apiece by Robby Sherk and Wrigley Clark and two wins by Lucas Kritzeck, the Park Rapids wrestling team dropped a pair of dual meets at the Century School gym on Thursday, Feb. 3.

The Panthers had to forfeit six matches in a 48-36 loss to Hibbing and a 52-27 loss to Frazee, which defeated Hibbing 39-33 in the other match.

Against Hibbing, the Panthers built a 36-12 lead before having to forfeit the final six matches. Sherk had eight takedowns in building a 17-5 advantage before recording a pin at the 2:32 mark at 106 pounds, Clark posted a pin in 1:39 at 120, Henry Thorson had a pin in 1:02 at 132, Jarrett Galzki used four takedowns to build an 8-3 advantage before recording a pin in 3:48 at 138, Andrew Johanning received a forfeit win at 145 and Kritzeck had a pin in 1:26 at 152 as Park Rapids controlled the early matches.

Frazee trailed 21-16 before using six forfeits to rally past the Panthers. A pair of takedowns, a nearfall and a reversal gave Sherk a 9-3 lead before ending the 106-pound match with a pin at the 4:13 mark. After Aiden Maanum received a forfeit at 113, Clark’s pin in 1:12 gave Park Rapids an 18-0 advantage. After Frazee cut the gap to 18-16 by winning the next three matches, Kritzeck used a pair of takedowns and a reversal for a 6-0 minor decision at 145. Six forfeits gave the Hornets a 52-21 advantage before D’Andre Johnson received a forfeit win at 285.

Park Rapids fell to 8-13 in dual meets while Frazee improved to 9-8. The split gave Hibbing a 7-11 record.
