Volleyball: Park Rapids drops conference, section matches

Staples-Motley and Perham defeat the Panthers.

STAPLES – Elliana Moulton pounded down 11 of the team’s 34 kills in leading Staples-Motley to a 3-1 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids volleyball team on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Maggie Claussen served six aces and had 27 digs, Annie Schlosser served four aces and had 30 set assists and three blocks, and Miranda Schotzko had six blocks in the Cardinals’ 25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 25-14 victory.

Riley Pike served six aces and had eight kills while Abby Felts (9) and Chloe Tretbar (7) combined for 16 kills for the Panthers, who had 34 kills with 21 hitting errors, served 10 aces with 12 service errors, and had eight errors on serve receive. Pike had 16 set assists and Erika Sellin had 13 set assists. Halle Eischens (21) and Anna Yliniemi (16) combined for 37 digs as Park Rapids fell to 0-3 in conference matches and 4-9 overall.

The Cardinals, who served 14 aces, improved to 2-1 against Mid-State opponents and 10-5 overall.

Perham sweeps Panthers

PERHAM – Eischens and Sellin served two aces each in Park Rapids’ 3-0 loss to Perham on Sept. 20.

Yliniemi led the Panthers with five kills and Pike had 10 digs in the 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 Section 8AA loss. Park Rapids had seven ace serves with seven serving errors, 16 kills with 19 attack errors, and eight errors on serve receive.

Perham improved to 4-1 in section matches and 7-5 overall while the Panthers fell to 1-1 against section foes.
