Volleyball: Nevis sweeps Blackduck, Menahga swept by Henning

The Tigers remain undefeated in Northland Conference play while the Braves fall to 1-2 in Park Region Conference matches.

NEVIS – Marley Mitchell’s 16 digs, nine kills and three solo blocks powered the Nevis volleyball team to a 3-0 Northland Conference win over Blackduck at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Kayli Bessler pounded down 15 kills while Mya Stacey served six aces and had 29 set assists in the Tigers’ 25-13, 25-8, 25-6 victory.

Allee Forbes served three aces and joined Bessler with eight digs as Nevis finished with 39 kills and eight hitting errors, 11 ace serves with six service errors, and no errors on serve receive.

The Tigers improved to 4-0 in the conference and 12-1 overall while Blackduck dropped to 1-2 in conference play and 2-6 overall.

HENNING – Henning remained undefeated on the season by sweeping a Park Region Conference match against Menahga on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Erica Tormanen (9) and Janelle Hendrickson (6) combined for 15 kills while Anna Pietila had 17 set assists to lead Menahga’s offense. Leah Weaver’s two solo blocks and double digit digs by Tormanen (12) and Pietila (11) paced the Braves’ defense.

Menahga (which had 22 kills with 21 hitting errors, three ace serves with six service errors, and eight errors on serve receive) fell to 1-2 in the conference and 3-9 overall. Henning, which was rated No. 11 in the latest state Class A poll, improved to 3-0 against conference foes and 10-0 overall.
