Volleyball: Aitkin prevails in marathon match over Park Rapids

The Panthers fall to 4-11 after the Mid-State Conference loss.

AITKIN – Teagan Piecek’s 12 kills led Aitkin to a 3-2 win over the Park Rapids volleyball team in a Mid-State Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Brooke Zubke added nine kills, Jessica Much had 28 digs, and Madison Hamilton had 21 set assists and 16 digs in the Gobblers’ 17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 17-25, 15-11 victory.

Erika Sellin (5), Chloe Tretbar (4), Riley Pike (3) and Abby Felts (3) combined for 15 of the Panthers’ 17 ace serves. Tretbar (9), Pike (8) and Natalie Viloria (8) led Park Rapids in kills while Felts (14), Tretbar (12), Pike (11) and Sellin (10) tallied double digits in digs. Sellin had 21 set assists and Pike had 13 set assists for the Panthers, who made 13 service errors, had 38 kills with 29 hitting errors, and made five errors on serve receive.

Aitkin improved to 2-2 in conference matches and 6-8 overall while the Panthers fell to 0-4 against Mid-State opponents and 4-11 overall.

Thief River Falls sweeps Panthers

THIEF RIVER FALLS – Thief River Falls posted a 3-0 sweep over the Panthers in a match between Section 8AA teams on Sept. 26.

The Prowlers prevailed 25-19, 25-13, 25-23.

Pike’s six kills, two ace serves and 13 set assists led the Panthers. Tretbar also served two aces and had eight digs while Sellin and Felts had seven digs apiece. Park Rapids served seven aces with 15 service errors, had 22 kills with 19 hitting errors, and had nine errors on serve receive.

The Prowlers improved to 5-3 in section play and 9-8 overall while Park Rapids fell to 1-2 against section foes.
