FARGO – Both of Park Rapids’ 4 x 800-meter relay teams captured titles at the Thundering Herd Classic indoor track and field meet on the campus of North Dakota State University on Saturday, April 2.
Parker Harmon, Eli Bervig, Thomas Lopez and Sam Warne clocked a winning time of 9:01.02 as the Park Rapids boys placed fourth in this 16-team meet with 62 points. Moorhead won the team title with 153 points in this meet that featured eight North Dakota teams.
Holly Johnson, Addison Lauwagie, Morgan Koppelman and Natalia Lopez won the girls 4 x 800 race in 10:26.43 as the Panthers placed fifth with 54 points. Central Cass took first with 111 points.
Also placing in the relays for the Park Rapids boys were Bervig, Kaleb Stearns, Logan Jackson and Lopez in the 4 x 400 race (third in 3:48.33) and Cameron Runyan, Jackson, Sam Reish and Tristan Hill in the 4 x 200 event (fourth in 1:41.44).
Scoring the other points for the Park Rapids boys were Stearns (seventh in 56.87) and Gannon Hrdlicka (eighth in 56.92) in the 400; Logan Maanum in the 800 (eighth in 2:16.19) and 1,600 (seventh in 5:03.24); Darryl Etter in the 1,600 (sixth in 5:02.58); Ephraim Bervig (third in 10:51.45) and Asher Bervig (sixth in 11:59.23) in the 3,200; Runyan (fourth at 10 feet, 6 inches) and Zach VanBatavia (eighth at 9-6) in the pole vault; and Hill (sixth at 42-11.50) and Luke Hartung (seventh at 42-11.50) in the shot put.

Olivia Davis was the runner-up in the triple jump (32-5.50) and took fourth in the 400 in 1:05.75 while joining Olivia Miller, Laney Vrieze and Avery Schueller in the 4 x 200 relay that placed fifth in 1:58.23. Johnson, Lauwagie, Koppelman and Lopez took third in the 4 x 400 relay in 4:19.68.
Also placing for the Park Rapids girls were Julia Harmon (third in 13:08.06) and Nora Bolton (fourth in 13:46.57) in the 3,200; Koppelman in the pole vault (third at 8-6); and Brandi Morgan in the triple jump (eighth at 28-3.50).
Jade Rypkema won the 3,200 in 11:27.91 to account for all 10 points as Nevis finished 11th in the girls meet. The Tigers didn’t score any points in the boys meet.
