Track and Field: Park Rapids challenges for titles at Section 8AA True Team meet

The Panthers earned runner-up honors in the boys meet and placed fourth in the girls meet.

FERGUS FALLS – Tristan Hill in the discus and the girls 4 x 400-meter relay unit finished first to provide the top highlights as the Park Rapids boys and girls track and field teams challenged for titles at the Section 8AA True Team meet at Fergus Falls on Tuesday, May 10.

Hill threw the discus 147 feet, 7 inches in leading the Panthers to a runner-up total of 525 points in the 11-team boys field. Fergus Falls won the team title with 540.50 points in this meet where every competitor scores points.

Olivia Davis, Morgan Koppelman, Natalia Lopez and Addison Lauwagie won the 4 x 400 relay in 4:13.24 as the Panthers finished fourth in the girls meet with 467 points. Detroit Lakes won the title with 561 points with Pequot Lakes (543.50) and Perham (527.50) following.

Also turning in top individual showings for the Park Rapids boys were Noah Huot (second in 4:35.95) and Eli Bervig (third in 4:37.59) in the 1,600; Bervig in the 800 (third in 2:07.25); Huot (third in 10:13.84) and Ephraim Bervig (fourth in 10:33.18) in the 3,200; Pierce DeBlieck in the 300 hurdles (fourth in 44.85); Hill (third at 44-5) and Luke Hartung (fourth at 42-9) in the shot put; and Logan Jackson in the high jump (fourth at 5-8).

The Panthers finished third in three relays. Jayden Walen, Jackson, Cameron Runyan and Hill clocked a 45.60 in 4 x 100 relay. Sam Warne, Jackson, Hartung and Kaleb Stearns finished in 3:39.23 in the 4 x 400 race. Logan Maanum, Parker Harmon, Blaine Hensel and Thomas Lopez combined for an 8:41.88 in the 4 x 800 relay.

The Park Rapids girls had a pair of runner-up finishes as Lauwagie clocked a 2:29.20 in the 800 and joined Julia Harmon, Holly Johnson and Madeline Brandt on the 4 x 800 relay team that finished in 10:17.98. Simone Wolff placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 89-3.

Park Rapids took fourth in the other two relays as Avery Schueller, Laney Vrieze, Brandi Morgan and Brooke Kritzeck went 54.36 in the 4 x 100 relay while Vrieze, Johnson, Davis and Olivia Miller clocked a 1:52.61 in the 4 x 200 race.
