Track and Field: Park Rapids boys open season by winning Little Amik Invitational title

Park Rapids girls finish 4th in first indoor meet at Bemidji State University.

BEMIDJI – Park Rapids won the boys title and placed fourth in the girls meet at the 25-team Little Amik Invitational at Bemidji State’s Gillett Wellness Center to open the indoor track and field season on Tuesday, March 29.

Noah Huot won the 1,600-meter run in 4:48.29 and the 800 in 2:09.06 while Parker Harmon, Thomas Lopez, Kaleb Stearns and Logan Maanum won the 4 x 800 relay in 9:00.28 as Park Rapids topped the boys field with 83 points. There were 20 teams that scored points in the boys meet.

Morgan Koppelman, Addison Lauwagie, Holly Johnson and Natalia Lopez won the 4 x 800 relay in 10:39.30 to account for the lone winning effort for the Park Rapids girls. The Panthers scored 58 points to trail Frazee (91), Bemidji (84) and Hibbing (65) as 23 teams scored points in the girls meet.

Eli Bervig was the runner-up in the 800 in 2:10.37 and took third in the 1,600 in 4:53.64 while Darryl Etter clocked a runner-up time of 11:36.64 in the 3,200. Luke Hartung finished second in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 3 inches for the Park Rapids boys.

Ayo Ogundeji won the 200 in 24.11 and took second in the 60 in 7.42 to lead the Nevis boys to 12th place with 18 points.

Lauwagie, Lopez, Olivia Davis and Olivia Miller clocked a runner-up 4:24.38 in the 4 x 400 relay while Koppelman placed second in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet for the Park Rapids girls.

Ava Isaacson took fourth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 32-9.50 to account for all the scoring as the Nevis girls tied for 19th place with 5 points.

Tigers make season debut

BEMIDJI – Nevis made its season debut at the Bemidji Lions Invitational at BSU on March 24.

Jade Rypkema set a meet and school record with a winning time of 5:06.29 in the 1,600 to account for Nevis’ 10 points for seventh place in the girls meet. Bagley/Fosston led the seven-team field with 138 points.

Ogundeji’s runner-up times of 7.53 in the 60 and 24.47 in the 200 led the Nevis boys to sixth place with 25 points. Jon Rice took fourth in the 60 hurdles in 10.34 while Eli Peterson (sixth in 2:23.56) and Daniel Lindow (eighth in 2:30.67) placed in the 800. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton took first with 180 points.
