FERGUS FALLS – The Park Rapids girls tennis team won three tiebreakers to blank Morris Area 7-0 and lost a pair of tiebreakers in a 4-3 loss to Fergus Falls during a triangular meet at Fergus Falls on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
In the win over Morris Area, three straight-set victories in singles led the way.
Macy Goochey shut out Chloe Zimmel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Kate Dravis posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lilia Asmus at No. 4 singles. Ella Ehler added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Izabell Hoffman at No. 3 singles.
Morgan Koppelman and Shailyn Hayes posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Karlie Bruns and Ashley Koehl at No. 1 doubles for the other straight-set win.
The other three matches went into third-set tiebreakers. Mickey Clark rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Claire Stark at No. 1 singles. Emmy Goochey and Abby Runyan defeated Nora Meek and Elizabeth Pollard 6-4, 4-6, 10-1 at No. 2 doubles. Nora Bolton and Rachel Ulvin prevailed at No. 3 doubles with a 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 win over Lydia Fynboh and Grace Hauglie.

Emma Morris and Madeline Brandt posted an 8-1 win in an exhibition doubles match.
Fergus Falls prevailed in tiebreakers in the lower two singles matches to edge the Panthers.
Koppelman defeated Isabelle Abrahams 7-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles while Clark and Macy Goochey rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hannah Anderson and Clara Stephan at No. 1 doubles. Emmy Goochey and Runyan rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 13-11 victory over Karley Braeger and Cyntreya Lockett at No. 2 doubles.
Ruby Ellison defeated Hayes 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and the duo of Hattie Fullhart and Kezi Hartwell defeated Bolton and Ulvin 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. The Otters sealed the win with a pair of close battles in the other singles matches. Lelia Nasri edged Ehler 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 at No. 3 singles while Ashtyn Lill topped Dravis 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 4 singles.
Fergus Falls blanked Morris Area 7-0 in the other match.
These matches marked the first dual meets of the season for the Panthers, who opened the season by placing seventh at the eight-team Park Rapids Invitational on Aug. 20.
“We certainly have work to do, but it was the first varsity experience for many of the girls and I know they were nervous,” said Park Rapids head coach Brianne Morris about the Panthers’ first outings of the season. “Once they realize they can play with anyone, things will get better.”
