Girls Tennis: Park Rapids hosts eight-team invitational

The Panthers open the season by breaking in the new Century School courts.

PARK RAPIDS – The Park Rapids girls tennis team broke in the new Century School courts by hosting an eight-team invitational on Saturday, Aug. 20.

No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles were played on the new courts while No. 3 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles were played at the Depot Courts.

"Having the meet on brand new courts was amazing. We loved how bright they were and we loved the space in between the courts for spectators," said Park Rapids head coach Brianne Morris. "I heard many comments from other coaches and fans about how beautiful the facility is and how much they loved the new courts."

Shailyn Hayes was the only Park Rapids player to win a first-round match. Hayes ended up placing fourth at No. 2 singles. Morgan Koppelman won the consolation title at No. 1 singles while Ella Ehlers finished seventh at No. 3 singles and Lauren Cunningham placed eighth at No. 4 singles in their varsity debuts.

Mickey Clark and Macy Goochey won the consolation title at No. 1 doubles while Emmy Goochey and Abby Runyan finished sixth at No. 2 doubles. Kate Dravis and Rachel Ulvin finished eighth at No. 3 doubles in their varsity debuts.

Minnewaska Area captured the team title with 18 points. Park Rapids finished seventh with 7 points.
