NEVIS – Mya Stacey hit two free throws with :06 remaining to complete a comeback and give the Nevis girls basketball team a 33-31 Northwoods Conference victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Jan. 27.
The Tigers, who lost to W-H-A 62-53 on Dec. 9, trailed 31-25 before closing the game on an 8-0 run. Stacey hit two free throws and Ava Isaacson hit two jumpers to tie the game at 31-31 before Stacey made the game-winning free throws.
Jumpers by Kayli Bessler and Isaacson gave Nevis a 4-2 lead before the Wolves claimed a 16-7 advantage. Bessler hit another jumper, but the Tigers trailed 18-9 at the half.
A 3-pointer by Bessler, two layups by Isaacson and a jumper by Marley Mitchell cut the gap to 19-18 before a 3-pointer by Emily Funk and a jumper by Bessler tied the game at 23-23. W-H-A went on an 8-2 run to reclaim the lead before the Tigers rallied for the win.
Isaacson’s 10 points and seven rebounds and Bessler’s double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds led the Tigers. Addison Lindow dished out four assists while Mitchell and Isaacson had three steals each as Nevis improved to 7-3 in the conference and 10-6 overall.

Aubrey Morrison’s 11 points paced the Wolves, who fell to 3-4 in the conference and 8-6 overall.
