PILLAGER – Maryn Pinoniemi’s 26 points led the way for the Menahga girls basketball team in a 58-31 Park Region Conference win over Pillager on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Pinoniemi’s three 3-pointers, three jumpers and layup along with Janie Tormanen’s three baskets, Amanda Lake’s two 3-pointers, and Lela Peterson’s layup gave the Braves a 34-15 lead at the half.
A 3-pointer by Lake, layups off steals by Tormanen and Peterson, and a layup by Pinoniemi sparked an 11-0 run to start the second half as Menahga led 43-15. A 3-pointer and layup by Pinoniemi and a pair of jumpers by Peterson capped off the win.
Lake (11), Peterson (10) and Tormanen (10) also scored in double figures as the Braves hit 7 of 19 3-pointers and forced 26 turnovers. Allie Pfeifer grabbed six rebounds, Peterson had seven assists and Pinoniemi made six steals as the Braves improved to 7-0 in the conference and 12-1 overall. Pillager fell to 5-2 in conference play and 9-4 overall.
