NEVIS – Ethan Klimek threw for three touchdowns and ran for another while Joe Houchin scored on a long pass play and long punt return in leading Nevis to a 48-6 win over Badger-Greenbush-Middle River in the District 9 West Central 9-man football opener on Friday, Sept. 2.

On the third play from scrimmage, Klimek hit Houchin on a 70-yard scoring play. Klimek kicked the extra point and the Tigers led 7-0 just 1:18 into the game.

Nevis extended the lead to 14-0 on Houchin’s 71-yard punt return and Klimek’s kick with 1:50 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Tigers closed out the first half with three more touchdowns.

On the ensuing series, a botched punt attempt gave Nevis possession on the BGMR 3. On the next play, Eli Klimek’s 3-yard TD reception made it 26-0 at the 7:36 mark.

After stopping BGMR on downs, the Tigers marched 60 yards in six plays to pad their advantage. A 21-yard reception by Eli Klimek, two receptions by Eli Lewis for 27 yards and a pass interference penalty set up a 5-yard TD reception by Lewis with 3:36 left in the opening half. Ogundeji ran in the conversion as Nevis carried a 34-0 lead into the intermission.

Austin Ahrendt recovered a fumble on the BGMR 41 to open the second half. After penalties for a facemask and holding forced a second-and-40, Ethan Klimek scored on a 52-yard run as the Tigers led 40-0 at the 8:17 mark of the third quarter.

The Gators followed with a 13-play, 70-yard scoring drive that was capped by Dylan VonEnde’s 1-yard TD plunge. That made it 40-6 with 1:22 left in the third quarter.

BGMR mounted another scoring threat, but AJ Bessler’s interception at the Nevis 3 ended that drive. That turnover started a quick four-play, 92-yard scoring drive by the Tigers. Eli Lindow’s 30-yard run plus a penalty for a horse collar tackle started that drive. Lindow followed with a 32-yard run before ending the drive with a 10-yard TD run. Bessler caught the conversion pass from Lewis to conclude the scoring with 4:00 to go.
