Cross Country: Park Rapids sweeps titles at Bagley Invitational

The Panthers win their first girls title, fourth boys title of the season.

BAGLEY – Park Rapids ran away from the field to sweep the girls and boys titles at the Bagley Invitational cross country meet at Twin Pines Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Morgan Koppelman and Julia Harmon finished in the top 10 spots in leading the Park Rapids girls to their first title of the season. Koppelman completed the 5K course in 20:55 and Harmon finished eighth in 21:43 as the Panthers compiled 54 points to top the 20-team field. Perham’s JV squad was second with 63 points and Bemidji took third with 65 points.

Rounding out Park Rapids’ team score were Natalia Lopez (14th in 22:23), Madeline Brandt (20th in 22:55) and Sarah Hartung (29th in 23:19). Aleka London (30th in 23:20) and Embry Deshayes (49th in 25:03) completed the Panthers’ varsity squad.

United North Central placed fourth with 89 points led by Anjalie Aho’s runner-up time of 20:24. Bemidji’s Mia Hoffman led the way with a winning time of 20:18. Completing UNC’s team score were Elsa Komppa (23rd in 22:57), Joanna Lehto (24th in 22:57), Macie Josephson (28th in 23:13) and Mattea Smith (44th in 24:45). Miley Westberg (47th in 24:59) and Kaylee Westberg (50th in 25:04) completed the Warriors’ varsity team.

Nevis fielded an incomplete team with Adeline Bjorklund (25th in 23:08), Grace McNamee (71st in 26:42) and Emily Funk (72nd in 26:48) competing.


Park Rapids ran away from the 22-team boys field with 19 points by having five runners finish in the top seven spots. Lake Park-Audubon was a distant second with 75 points. The Panthers, who took first for the fourth time in five meets, were rated No. 3 and LP-A was rated No. 15 in this week’s state Class A poll.

Noah Huot set the pace with a winning 5K time of 16:43. Ephraim Bervig was second in 16:59, Blaine Hensel took fourth in 17:19, Eli Bervig was fifth in 17:23 and Logan Maanum finished seventh in 17:30. Thomas Lopez (16th in 18:16) and Asher Bervig (21st in 18:45) completed Park Rapids’ varsity squad.

Nevis fielded an incomplete team with Evan Pohl placing 18th in 18:21 and Eli Peterson taking 20th in 18:40.

United North Central also had an incomplete squad with Riley Livingston (32nd in 19:40), Henry Hultburg (93rd in 23:39) and Wesley Hodge (96th in 23:50) running.
