Clay Target: McKenzie Girtz competes at state tournament

The Park Rapids trapshooter tied for 46th place.

PRIOR LAKE – Park Rapids’ McKenzie Girtz tied for 46th place at the Minnesota State High School League State Clay Target Tournament at the Minneapolis Gun Club on Friday, June 24.

Girtz, who qualified as one of the top 100 shooters during the spring season, hit 95 out of 100 targets to share the No. 5 spot out of 11 female competitors. Madi Schulz of Wayzata was the top female by hitting 98 targets.

Five competitors – Wayzata’s Davis Hay, Lakeville South’s Benjamin Nachreiner, Stillwater’s Carter Sampson, Benson’s Anthony Klassen and Staples-Motley’s Keith Rollins – shared top honors by hitting a perfect 100 targets in the 92-competitor field.

Wayzata won the team title as the five-member team hit 489 out of 500 targets. A total of 40 teams qualified for the state tournament.
