PARK RAPIDS – Anson Haack’s shorthanded goal and power-play goal in the third period rallied Lake of the Woods to a 2-2 tie with the Park Rapids-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Park Rapids carried a 2-0 lead into the third period behind Nash Mitchell’s power-play goal at the 7:50 mark of the first period and Jaxson Lund’s goal at the 7:54 mark of the second period. Mitchell and Liam Torola set up Lund’s goal.
Despite being outshot 13-7 in the third period, the Bears forced overtime when Haack scored on a breakaway when Park Rapids was on the power play just 1:49 into the period and scored on a slapshot off a faceoff following a Park Rapids penalty with 6:27 left in regulation.
Lake of the Woods fired five shots on net while the Panthers had three shots on goal in overtime as these two Section 8A rivals settled for a tie.
Goalie Sawyer Torkelson made 30 saves for the Panthers, who defeated LOW 5-4 on Dec. 10. Park Rapids is now 2-4-1 in section games and 7-8-1 overall.

LOW, which was outshot 38-32 in the game, is now 1-5-1 against section foes and 5-8-1 overall.
