PARK RAPIDS – New York Mills took advantage of six errors in the first game and pounded out 10 hits in the second game to sweep an American Legion baseball doubleheader at Park Rapids on Thursday, July 7.
New York Mills followed a 13-2 win in six innings in the first game with a 10-6 win in five innings in the second game.
In the opener, five errors gave NYM a 6-0 lead in the second inning while two hit batters, a walk, an error and two singles made it 10-1 in the fifth. Three walks and two hits produced NYM’s final three runs in the sixth as this game ended early via the 10-run rule.
Park Rapids scored once in the third when Matt Johanning reached on an error, advanced on Sawyer Torkelson’s single and scored on Ethan Eischens’ RBI single.
In the fourth, Park Rapids scored its other run on walks to Nick Michaelson and Tyler Officer, a single by John Christensen and a passed ball.

Eischens and Anthony Tyge walked in the second, Eischens singled in the fifth, and Hunter Harrison was hit by a pitch and Isaiah Olson reached on an error in the sixth to account for Post 212’s other baserunners.
Olson started and took the loss, allowing 10 runs on four hits, four walks and one hit batter while striking out four in 4 ⅔ innings. Harrison allowed three runs on three hits, three walks and a hit batter over the final 1 ⅓ innings.
The Legion jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second game before NYM rallied to complete the sweep.
Jaxson Lund doubled, Torkelson walked, Eischens reached on catcher’s interference, and Johanning and DJ Reichling singled as Park Rapids claimed a 3-0 lead in the first.
In the second, Lund’s two-out triple and singles by Torkelson, Eischens and Johanning pushed Post 212’s lead to 5-0.
After two errors led to a New York Mills run, a single by Reichling, a walk to Harrison and Michaelson’s sacrifice gave Park Rapids a 6-1 advantage in the third.
NYM rallied for the win by using four doubles to score four times in the third, three hits to spark a four-run fourth and two hits to score a run in the fifth.
Lund went 2 for 3 with two runs, Torkelson went 2 for 2 with two runs, Johanning went 2 for 2 and Reichling went 2 for 3 to pace Park Rapids’ eight-hit attack. Torkelson took the loss, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Park Rapids fell to 0-5 on the season.
NYM edges Legion
NEW YORK MILLS – Four errors sparked a four-run first inning that led New York Mills to a 5-3 win over the Park Rapids Legion on June 30.
New York Mills led off the bottom of the first inning with three straight doubles and drew four walks in building a 4-0 lead.
Park Rapids scored twice in the third on walks to Noah Morris, Eischens, Michaelson and Aidan Yliniemi Hensel and a single by Reichling.
Three singles led to another NYM run in the fifth before Park Rapids concluded the scoring in the sixth on back-to-back triples by Johanning and Olson.
Olson’s single in the fourth was the only other hit for Park Rapids, which finished with four hits. Olson started and took the loss, allowing four runs in ⅓ of an inning. Morris finished up as NYM finished with nine hits.
