NEVIS – A six-run fourth inning led the Nevis baseball team to an 11-1 five-inning victory over Hill City/Northland in a game between Section 5A teams on May 23.
Dawson McGee singled and scored in the first and Ward Davis’ RBI double made it 2-0 in the second.
Davis’ two-run double was followed by McGee’s RBI single, Tyler Lindow’s RBI double, Cain Mitchell’s RBI triple and Eli Klimek’s RBI single with two outs in the fourth. Three walks, an error and Devan Lindow’s RBI single concluded the scoring in the fifth.
McGee (2 for 4, two runs, two RBI), Mitchell (2 for 3, two RBI) and Davis (2 for 2, two runs, three RBI) sparked the Tigers’ nine-hit attack. Davis went the distance, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts as Hill City fell to 1-4 against section teams and 2-9 overall.
Tigers top Pine River-Backus
PINE RIVER – A four-run fifth inning propelled the Tigers to a 7-2 win over Pine River-Backus in a battle between Northland Conference and Section 5A teams on May 24.

A double by Austin Ahrendt, a single by Tyler Lindow and an error gave Nevis a 2-0 lead in the third.
After PR-B tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, Nevis scored the winning runs in the fifth on singles by Ahrendt, McGee and Klimek and a double by Mitchell.
An error and Klimek’s single concluded the scoring in the seventh.
Klimek (3 for 4, two RBI), Ahrendt (2 for 3, two runs) and Mitchell (two runs) led Nevis’ offense, which finished with nine hits. Mitchell earned the win, giving up one earned run on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over six innings. Tyler Lindow struck out two batters in the seventh.
Nevis, which defeated PR-B 4-3 earlier in the season, improved to 12-1 in the conference, 6-0 against section teams and 14-1 overall. PR-B fell to 7-2 in the conference, 6-2 in the section and 12-4 overall.
