Baseball: Late rally helps Park Rapids sweep Frazee

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton shuts out Panthers in Section 8AA contest.

PARK RAPIDS – After winning the first game, the Park Rapids baseball team had to rally in the second game to complete a doubleheader sweep in a pair of Section 8AA games against Frazee at the Area High School field on May 17.

The Panthers scored four runs in the second inning and two runs in the sixth to spark a 9-5 victory in the first game. Frazee led 6-3 in the second inning in the second game before Park Rapids rallied to complete the sweep with a 7-6 win in eight innings.

After Isaiah Olson singled and scored on Ethan Eischens’ RBI single in the first, the Panthers claimed a 5-2 lead in the opener by scoring four times in the second. Singles by Noah Larson and Olson, two errors and Jaxson Lund’s two-run double highlighted that inning.

.A double by Eischens and a single by Mason Ylineimi produced a run in the fourth before an error and Noah Morris’ RBI double made it 7-3 in the fifth. Park Rapids sealed the win on two walks, an error and singles by Ylineimi and Larson in the sixth.

Olson (2 for 4, two runs), Eischens (2 for 3), Yliniemi (2 for 4), Larson (3 for 4, two runs) and Morris (2 for 4) led Park Rapids’ 13-hit attack. Sawyer Torkelson started and earned the win with Lund finishing up.

In the second game, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as two walks and a single by Yliniemi with two outs set up an RBI single by Torkelson and a two-run single by Michaelson.

Frazee scored six times in the second before Park Rapids rallied. An error and Lund’s RBI single cut the gap to 6-5 in the fourth before Larson singled and scored on Morris’ RBI single to tie the game at 6-6 in the fifth. A two-out double by Lund and Eischens’ RBI single produced the winning run in the eighth.

Lund (2 for 5, two runs) and Larson (2 for 4) led a 10-hit offensive attack for the Panthers. Morris didn’t allow a run for the win in relief of Larson as Frazee fell to 4-7 in section games and 5-7 overall.

PARK RAPIDS – The Panthers were held to only three hits in an 8-0 Section 8AA loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at the Area High School field on Thursday, May 19.

Park Rapids squandered scoring chances in the first two innings as Lund walked and Eischens reached on an error in the first while Torkelson, Morris and Olson walked in the second.

Singles by Olson and Eischens in the fifth and a single by Larson in the sixth were the only hits for the Panthers.

Olson started and took the loss as the Panthers fell to 3-1 against section teams and 8-6 overall. Eischens pitched two scoreless innings of relief. D-G-F improved to 5-4 in section play and 9-5 overall.
