Brady Raph scored 26 points and Louis Bueckers added 18 points as Pine River-Backus defeated the Nevis boys basketball team 69-67 at Pine River on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Champ Howard chipped in 10 points as PR-B avenged a 75-61 loss to Nevis on Dec. 19.
Eddie Kramer led the Tigers with 31 points while Ty Warrington (13), Luke DeWulf (10) and Derek Lindow (10) also scored in double figures. Jack McNamee had six rebounds, Lindow had five assists and four rebounds, and Warrington had three assists as the Tigers fell to 7-2 in conference play and 15-3 overall.
PR-B improved to 4-6 in the conference and 10-6 overall.
“We knew this was going to be a tough road game as Pine River is tough at home. Their two seniors (Raph and Bueckers) really played well and combined for 44 points,” said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. “I thought we were a little stagnant on offense and the difference was that we just didn’t defend like we are capable of. It was our sixth game in 10 days and it showed as we were a little late on some closeouts and just weren’t able to get stops after we were able to come back from a double-digit deficit in the second half.”
