Park Rapids will host the District 6 Division II American Legion baseball tournament beginning Thursday with eight teams participating.

First-round games Thursday pit Park Rapids against Sauk Centre and Menahga/Sebeka against Paynesville at 10 a.m. The winners and losers of those two games play again at 12:30. At 3 p.m., Pierz plays Melrose and Walker plays Albany. The winners and losers of those games play again at 5:30 to conclude the first day.

The tournament continues Friday at 11 a.m. and concludes with the championship game Saturday at 1:30. A deciding game, if necessary, in this double-elimination tournament will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.

The champion advances to the state tournament July 29-31 at LeSueur-Henderson.

Admission for the tournament is $7 for adults and $3 for students.

Park Rapids finished subdistrict play with an 11-1 loss in five innings to Walker Friday night. Adam Thompson singled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Nathan David and a sacrifice fly by Chase Brand, and scored the Legion's lone run on an error in the first inning.

Keith McDaniel allowed seven runs in the first inning and four runs the rest of the way in a complete-game effort.
