Park Rapids girls claim title, climb in state poll

The Park Rapids girls cross-country team captured its second consecutive title with a dominating performance at Monday's Pelican Rapids Invitational.

The Park Rapids girls cross-country team captured its second consecutive title with a dominating performance at Monday's Pelican Rapids Invitational.

Led by a 1-2 showing by Lydia Lutz and Victoria Lutz, the Panthers ran away from the nine-team field with 25 points. Breckenridge was a distant second with 92 points.

In the boys meet, the Panthers used Taylor Kimball's fifth-place finish to place fourth out of nine teams with 80 points. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton took first with 68 points.

Lydia Lutz finished the 4,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 14 seconds and Victoria Lutz was second in 16:34 to lead the Panthers. Sophie Shogren finished sixth in 17:49, Kaylee Hil-manowski was ninth in 17:55 and Tiffany Deitchler was 10th in 18:01 to complete Park Rapids' team score.

Kimball led the Park Rapids boys team with a time of 19:33 over the 5,000-meter course. Zac Haugland was 11th in 20:24, Sam Goebel finished 13th in 20:29, Jake Waggoner was 31st in 21:51 and Jared Storseth finished 35th in 22:58 to round out Park Rapids' team score.

Park Rapids moved up two positions to the No. 10 spot in this week's state Class A girls poll. Lydia Lutz is ranked No. 11 in the individual poll.
